Many existing industries play a large hand in contributing to environmental deterioration, and many environmental laws have come into place to combat this and encourage organisations to evolve their practices to something more sustainable.
It’s important for an organisation to understand environmental law on a local, regional, and global scale. These laws coexist and align to create a stronger base that many countries follow. The environment is complex, and when creating laws and regulations, there needs to be a comprehensive understanding of the causes and impacts within nature and on a societal level.
Aligning environmental needs with societal needs can be difficult, especially when many industries' core practices greatly damage the environment or cause intense pollution. These regulations need to be sustainable and, most importantly, achievable.

This course uses a variety of adult learning styles to aid full understanding and comprehension. Participants will review real-world case studies of environmental challenges and how laws and regulations have improved these.
They will be provided with the ideal tools and equipment necessary to conduct the learning exercises. - Describing what atmospheric pollution is at a regional and global level.
- Understanding how atmospheric pollution is created at different levels.
- Identifying multiple domestic laws and their role in reducing localised pollution – smoke, industrial pollution, environmental permitting.
- Maintaining safe water through legislation and regulatory techniques.
- Land contamination caused by landfills and the importance of reducing waste.
Section 3: Climate Change
- Understanding the depth of the climate change crisis.
- How some industries are inherently resistant to sustainability – oil and gas.
- Evaluating the importance of UN COP26, its objectives and implications.
- The utilisation of modern technology aligned with legislation to regulate large-scale contributors to climate change.
- International Commitments to Sustainability.
- Emissions trading and Energy Conservation.
Section 4: Fauna and Flora Conservation
- Observing the decline of ecosystems due to climate change.
- Assessing regional and international law securing biodiversity.
- Comprehending the concepts of consumptive use surrounding animals.
- Varying factors that influence the approach to animal conservation.
- The role organisations and charities play in fauna and flora conservation.
Section 5: Water and Environment
- The global consequences of water pollution.
- Examine the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD), its approach, key objectives and the ‘non-deterioration principle’.
- Drought guidance and regulations – permits, orders and emergency orders.
- Sustainable development of water utilisation.
- Reviewing the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 and its listed definitions, offences and defences.
