Brussels, the capital city of Belgium is referred to as the “de facto” capital of the European Union because it hosts several EU institutions. It is located in the valleys of the Senne River and it is the seat of the famous Belgian royal family. The city has a fine blend of medieval buildings comprising magnificent castles with modern architectural masterpieces. Brussels is officially a bi-lingual city, recognizing both Dutch and French as its official languages.
