Rio de Janeiro, the capital of Brazil, is one of the most visited tourist destinations in South America and the world. The name of the city means “January River”, and the city itself was discovered by the Portuguese in 1565. The Tijuca National Park in the city is an ecological park which UNESCO considers the first Urban forest. Other popular tourist attractions in the city include Flamengo Park, Macarana stadium, Museum of tomorrow, and the most famous of all – The statue of Christ the Redeemer.
