Construction projects involve a great number of people, which makes effective site management absolutely crucial. Due to the nature of construction, health and safety monitoring and quality control are the main areas that require constant attention.

Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning (EPCIC) contracts are the most common contracts used within construction. These contracts strictly lay out terms of work in great detail, and are an essential tool in driving productivity. Yet, they also strongly focus on health and safety. EPCICs require a vast amount of planning before a project is carried out, ensuring all safety measures and risk elements are accounted for and considered regarding an adequate contingency plan.

Site managers are responsible for overseeing quality and maintaining health, safety, and welfare in alignment with EPCIC from start to finish. Without the role of a site manager, construction sites can quickly become extremely unsafe and have the potential to cause great harm. Site managers need a detailed understanding of the fundamentals of construction sites, how to create plans correctly, and how to conduct necessary risk management strategies.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Plan and manage the work of sub-contractors.
  • Explain what EPCIC is and its importance.
  • Understand how to interpret EPCIC contracts effectively.
  • Manage quality control on a construction site.
  • Gain a detailed understanding of the mechanics of construction projects.
  • Review the duties and responsibilities of site management personnel.
  • Evaluate essential site planning processes.
  • Analyse the management of all vital areas within the site.
  • Identify legislative requirements for health and safety.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.

This course is designed for anyone with site management responsibilities who wishes to develop their knowledge of EPCIC. It would be most beneficial for:

  • Technical Engineers
  • Project Managers
  • Health and Safety Officers
  • HR Personnel
  • Site Managers
  • Site Supervisors
  • Operations Managers
  • Cost and Control Managers
  • Sub-Contractor Personnel

This course uses a variety of adult learning styles to aid full understanding and comprehension. Participants will review genuine examples of EPCIC contracts and other documents relating to site management to highlight key areas of importance.

They will be provided with the necessary tools to analyse their examples and thoroughly understand how they work effectively. Participants will partake in role-playing activities with others to practice planning, negotiating, and managing EPCIC contracts. They will also review health and safety regulations together and enact scenarios where potential issues could occur, and provide solutions to them. These activities will help the participants truly grasp the taught content and develop a full and detailed understanding of it.

Day 5 of each course is reserved for a Q&A session, which may occur off-site. For 10-day courses, this also applies to day 10
